Lady Eagles Improve Two Spots To No. 8 In This Week’s WBCA Poll

LILBURN, Ga. - The Carson-Newman women’s basketball continues to climb the ladder as it is now ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II by the WBCA USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll. The ranking tops last week’s pick of 10th as the highest-ever for the Lady Eagles.

Carson-Newman picked up a pair of wins last week, with a 78-68 victory coming over Wingate at home Wednesday. The Lady Eagles defeated Tusculum by a 90-77 margin Saturday on the road. C-N has played nine of its last 11 games away from home.

C-N is off to its best start since in school history and is one of eight D-II schools that remain undefeated on the year.

Franklin Pierce is No. 1 for the third straight week and the top seven schools are unchanged from last week. Fellow South Atlantic Conference schools Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry are each continuing to receive votes.

C-N returns to the court tomorrow when it travels to Brevard for a SAC contest. The Lady Eagles will face the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne, last season’s regular season and tournament champions, in league action at 6:00 p.m., Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse.

The WBCA USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll is voted on by 30 head coaches from across the nation at NCAA Division II institutions.
